If you guys have been following my posts, you will know that I am firm believer in drinking beer out of the correct glass for a particular style, so I was thrilled when I came across the Pretentious Beer Glass Company

In my online wanderings, I came across a company called the Pretentious Beer Glass Company, based in Knoxville, Tennessee which is owned and operated by Matthew Cummings. Matthew is an artist in glass blowing who seems to love his beer. The concept for the Pretentious Beer Glass Company came up one drinking session when his friends asked him to make beer glasses for each of them. This led to Matthew realising that there is a lack of special beer glasses in the market, and in turn led to the creation of the Pretentious Beer Glass Company.

All his products are unique, handmade glasses using typical glass blowing techniques, where molten glass is blown into shapes through a hollow pipe and then shaped. Michael Cummings creates all his glasses by hand and does not use any machinery. Each glass is hand signed and packed in branded gift boxes.

While we won’t find these glasses in a brewery due to the fact that being handmade they aren’t inexpensive, but that shouldn’t stop us as individuals to own and enjoy these glasses at home.

Called the Subtle, this glass is made to enhance lighter flavoured beers.

The Malty beer glass highlights any beer with distinct malt notes like a Stout or Porter.

The Hoppy as the name suggests, is made to highlight hop intensive beers like IPAs.

The Aromatic beer glass with its unique shape will do well to showcase strong or aromatic beers.

Matthew creates a number of other types of glasses including Whiskey glasses. Go to his website to check out everything he does. The man is a true artist.

You can order these incredible glasses from Michael’s Etsy shop. Being a one man operation, allow for a couple of weeks before your order will be ready to ship.

Check out the video below of a professional describing the glass blowing process.
