The Flying Dodo Brewing Company is the only one of it’s kind in Mauritius. Beer lovers in the country were restricted to the commercially brewed Phoenix brand of beers until Oscar Olsen, The Beer Hunter, founded the Flying Dodo Brewing Company in 2012.
After travelling and studying abroad for a number of years, Oscar realised that Mauritius could do with a larger variety of beers. This led to him opening the Lambic pub and Beer shop in 2009. As time went by, Oscar figured it was time to try and introduce locally crafted beers to the market which led to the conceptualisation of Flying Dodo.
The Flying Dodo beer menu has a variety of beers like a Blonde, an Experimental IPA, a Belgian Wit, and Stout to name just a few. I’ll be reviewing all their beers in the coming days so watch out for those.
One of the many interesting things about the Flying Dodo is their glass mashtun & kettle.
The microbrewery also boasts of a Beer Spa where customers can soak in a large bathtub full of, you guessed it – beer! While I unfortunately did not have enough time to try the spa out, I did jump into the tub to try it on for size! haha
The Flying Dodo also has the option of take away for their beers. You can buy 1L growlers of any of the beers they serve to take home with you. They also sell kegs for parties. Just give them a call with your order, come pick up your keg, and return it when done!
If you are ever in Mauritius, The Flying Dodo Brewing Company should definitely be on your list of to-do’s. I know I’ll be back again soon!
